Debian is one of the oldest and freely available open source Operating System based on the Linux Kernel. The Debian project was established by Ian Murdock and coordinated by a team of volunteers to contribute to the project. Debian is a GNU/Linux distribution composed of ready-to-use software packages that comply with the GNU General Public License. The Debian GNU/Linux distribution is the combination of GNU tools, the Linux kernal and other free software. 

Raspberry Pi OS is a Debian based Operating System optimized for the Raspberry Pi hardware. Debian is the basis for many distributions like Ubuntu, Deepin, Kali Linux, Parrot OS, Devuan, Knoppix and many more.

The Debian version names are named after characters from the animation film "Toy Story". The below table lists Debian OS versions, code names and its corresponding Toy Story characters.
